This is the final announcement about the AGN conference in
Lijiang. The preliminary program will be sent separately within
a few days.


Hotels:
------

The conference will be held in the old city of Lijiang,
in the Caixin hotel.

The conference hotel is within walking distance (about 10 minutes by walk)
from the Guan Fang hotel.

Hotel room booking was already done for all German participants
who sent their travel schedule to the Chinese LOC.
Hotel costs for the German participants, during the time
of the workshop, will be covered by grants from the CAS.

The location of Guan Fang hotel is marked on that map.
Information how to reach the conference Caixin hotel
will be distributed at Guan Fang hotel.


How to reach the hotel from the airport of Lijiang:
--------------------------------------------------

Flights from Beijing reach Lijiang via Kunming.
Several participants will take the following flight
from Beijing on July 30:
   Beijing-Kunming: departure:12:40(BT) arrival in Kunming: 15:45
   Kunming-Lijiang: departure:19:45   arrival in Lijiang: 20:30

The airport of Lijiang is about 30 km from the city center/hotel.
The most convenient way to reach the hotel will be via taxi 
at the airport.
In order to communicate your destination to the Chinese
taxi driver, please retrieve a postscript file at the conference
webpage,

which includes some Chinese text and the hotel address
written in Chinese. You should make a print-out,  and show it
to the taxi driver.
After payment, please ask the driver for a receipt and keep that.

German participants may exchange Chinese Yuan CNY at the airport in Beijing.
The Guanfang hotel also provides money exchange service. All money
exchanges in China follow the same standard rate from the Bank of China.
At present, 1.00 EUR = 8.06 CNY. After having changed Euro into CNY, please
keep the receipt. It will later allow you to re-change the left-over
CNY into Euro, which is ONLY possible with the original receipt.


Inner-China flight tickets:
--------------------------
Tickets for flights within China will be booked
by the Chinese LOC,  based on the travel schedules
the German participants sent to the LOC.
Flight tickets are now being sent by express mail to the
institute's addresses of the individual participants.
The return-tickets or connecting-flight tickets within
China will be handed over directly during the meeting.

If you do NOT receive your ticket until July 17,
please contact the organizers! (Send email to
Prof Jianyan Wei, wjy@ns.bao.ac.cn, with copies to
skomossa@mpe.mpg.de and fy@nova.bao.ac.cn).

German participants have to pay these tickets after
arrival in Lijiang in CNY. They will
later get a re-fund from MPG headquarters. Receipts
should be kept for later submission to MPG.


Visa:
----

German participants need a visa to enter China. By now, everybody
should have received more detailed instructions on the visa process
from MPG headquarters. If not, and you still have questions related
to the visa process, please contact skomossa@mpe.mpg.de
Express visa for China can be obtained within two days.


Length of talks,  available equipment:
--------------------------------------

The conference program will consist of invited review talks
and contributed talks.

Review talks will have a duration of 45 minutes
   (35min+10min discussion),
contributed talks will have a duration of 20 minutes
   (15+5 min).


The following display equipment is available in the hotel:

  - a conventional transparency overhead projector
  - a computer projector
  - a public laptop running Windows 2000

If you intend to give an ELECTRONIC PRESENTATION:

  - Your laptop can be directly connected to the beamer via video
     link. You will have to know how to send the video signal to the
     video output of your laptop.

  - Please check as early as possible and definitely BEFORE the start of
     your session that your laptop communicates with the beamer
     properly or that your diskette/CD-ROM is readable on the local PC.

  - It is encouraged that all the participants use the public laptop.
     You can bring your presentation on a CD-ROM or a diskette (3 1/2").
     Or you can send your presentation to Yi Fan (fy@nova.bao.ac.cn) by
     email as an attachment BEFORE JULY 26. She will store your presentation
     in the public laptop. In this case your presentation must be
     in PDF, HTML, or Microsoft native formats, e.g. PowerPoint. It will not
     be possible to display presentations on a CD-ROM or a diskette in
     non-Microsoft native formats.

 IN CASE OF ANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPUTER-RELATED FACILITIES,
 WE ADVISE YOU TO BRING A COPY OF YOUR PRESENTATION PRINTED ON
 VIEWGRAPHS FOR THE OVERHEAD PROJECTOR.


Registration and Reception:
--------------------------
Registration will be on July 30, starting at 17:30 in the conference hotel,
and will continue the next morning from 8:30 - 9:00.
A welcome reception will be held at Caixin hotel at 21:30.


Conference Fee:
--------------

There will be a conference fee of 90 US-Dollar for German
participants, and 700 CNY for Chinese participants  
(half of that for students), 
to be paid upon arrival (in US-Dollars or CNY).
The conference fee will include a copy of the
proceedings, coffee + and cakes during the breaks, two excursions,
and the conference dinner.


Excursions:
----------

Two excursions are planned. One will be a visit of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain,
the other will go to the Tiger Jump Gorge and the side where NAOC
is building a new telescope.

Weather in Lijiang:
------------------
The weather in Lijiang is pleasant across the whole
year. There is no hot summer.
In August, an average temperature of 17 degrees C is expected,
with highest and lowest average temperatures ranging between
23 and 14 deg C.
