X-ray evidence for massive outflows in AGN

Ken Pounds (University of Leicester)

The improved sensitivity and resolution of X-ray spectra obtained with the XMM-Newton and Chandra Observatories, particularly in the Fe K band, have yielded evidence for high velocity winds with outflow mass rates and kinetic energies comparable to the accretion values. The observational evidence is reviewed and some wider implications for the analysis and interpretation of AGN spectra noted.
