use of git

I don't understand actually. It appears from the email that's been
going around since I subscribed, that perl is in the process of moving
to git, but it seemed to me that this was experimental, not ready yet.
I've looked some at their tutorial. And I've worked on large projects
with probably similar mechanisms, and was even responsible for a little
while for maintaining merge tools.
I gather that git makes it easier on the integrators, so I'm happy to
use it, but I don't really know what to do. perlhack.pod doesn't
mention it, and I just now searched the archives, and found hundreds of
messages. Is there a useful summary somewhere as to how a perl hacker
should use git? If so, I could try it and submit a patch to perlhack
based on my experience.
