OK. In that case I'll remove my attempted use of parallel testing, since
it also seems to have made my smoke log files enormous: 28MB each,
instead of 6MB each!

For some reason I get mountains of output like this:

No saved state, selection will be empty

===(       1 )==========================================================
===(       2 )==========================================================
===(       3 )==========================================================
...

and continuing the entire way through all the test output. The
line-endings aren't right either (I'm seeing loads of ^Ms all over the
output).
